Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The proportions of copper and zinc can vary to create a variety of brasses with varying properties. In industrial brasses, the percentage of zinc is always below 50%. Its composition influences the mechanical characteristics, the fusibility and theability to form by casting, forging, die-cutting and machining.
It is harder than copper, and has similar ductility. It is widely used in screws andwires.
